Digging in a growing welcome
30 June 2009
Shropshire Housing Group (SHG) has teamed up with Craven Arms Town Council to provide a bright and growing welcome for those arriving into Craven Arms on the A49.
Total Response Limited (TRL), Shropshire Housing Group’s Repairs and Maintenance team, has been planting up the flower beds between Drovers House and the A49, close to the headquarters of South Shropshire Housing Association, also part of the SHG.
Jamie Onslow TRL’s Ground Maintenance Team Leader explained: “One of the services that Total Response Limited provides is to look after the grounds maintenance of housing estates and developments across Shropshire.
“The flower beds at Drovers House had become neglected and we were approached by Craven Arms Town Council to see if we could help improve them. We agreed to share the costs of the plants on a 50/50 basis.
“We have been planting them up with low growing shrubs, which will provide colour all year around. They are an extremely practical, low maintenance solution. The thornless shrubs will not trap litter, nor prevent it from being collected, and because they are low growing they will not impact on drivers’ lines of sight.”
June Hoskins, Craven Arms Town Council Vice Chair, said: “The Town Council are pleased to work in partnership with SSHA and Total Response Ltd to improve the environment by planting shrubs at Drovers House.”
In a separate partnership venture, Craven Arms Town Council has teamed up with SSHA to provide a town council office at The Gateway that is open to residents 10am-12noon on Mondays and Thursday to view current planning applications and raise relevant local issues.
